Assam wildlife parks open to visitors

Guwahati: All the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in Assam including Kaziranga National Park (KNP), Manas National Park (MNP), Rajiv Gandhi (Orang) National Park have been thrown open for the visitors and wildlife buff on Saturday for the forthcoming tourist season.
This year, it has been a deviation from the practice of opening these wildlife protection areas for visitors on November 1 every year. The parks and sanctuaries of wildlife have been opened for visitors by one month advance this year as per the instruction of the chief minister Sarbanada Sonowal in order to boost generation of revenue for the tourism and forest departments in the state.
Out of all these wildlife protection area Kaziranga Park attracts the maximum number of tourists every  year among all the destinations in the state. Both Kaziranga and Manas National Parks are recognized  as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and home to numerous species of animal and avian species.
Kaziranga in famous for its treasure trove of Big 5 – one horned rhinoceros, elephant, tiger, Asiatic  buffaloes, and swamp deer – besides numerous species of reptiles, birds and other animals.
Picturesque  Manas national park located along Assam’s border with Bhutan Himalayas , has a tiger project besides elephants, bisons, deer, endangered hispid hare, pigmy hogs, leopards, peacocks and other birds. The rhino population in Manas Pak has grown gradually because of translocation from Kaziranga and Pobitora Parks of Assam under the Rhino Vision 2020 project.
