SHILLONG: Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan is quite confident that the new Consumer Protection Bill will be passed in the next session of Parliament.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday Paswan said that the Government has taken all care of consumers’ interest in the new Bill.
Lamenting that the Consumers Protection Bill which was passed in the year 1986 did not see any changes since then Paswan said that the new Bill will ensure the rights of consumers.
In addition, the Ministry is also considering punitive measures for airing of misleading advertisements, he added.
Under the new Act, the Government would also have three level– District, State  and National– consumer courts.
The Minister also informed that the Government would soon start six consumer help lines and one of the regional help lines in Guwahati will cater to the grievances of the consumers of the North East.
