Aizawl: A delegation of the Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) arrived in Aizawl on Tuesday for the second round of peace talks with the state government, a senior home department official said.
The HPC(D) delegation led by Lalthalien, Imphal-based prominent church leader, comprised of former president of Hmar Inpui (Hmar Supreme House) Dr John Pulamte, president of Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) Lalthlamuana Hmar, general secretary of Hmar Inpui Francis Songate, former chairman of the Sinlung Hills Development Council (SHDC) Lalmalsawma Darngawn and Thanglianchhunga. Darngawn replaced Rohringa who was one of the delegate members in the first round of talks held on August 10.
The four-member state government delegation led by Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama, comprised of Joint Secretary for Home Lalhriatpuia, SP, CID (SB) Rodingliana Chawngthu and OSD (Home) David H Lalthangliana.
Lalthalien had earlier told PTI that the talks would mainly centre around the demands of the Hmar militant outfit seeking greater autonomy and more power to the Sinlung Hills Development Council (SHDC).
Both the sides would deliberate on making the SHDC better suited for the people of the area, maybe even better than an autonomous district council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. (PTI)
