SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission is yet to receive a single case even after three months of official formation of the rights panel.
It was on July 15 that the first Chairman of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission Justice (retd) Aftab H. Saikia assumed charge.
Later, on August 4, the chairman along with the lone member P.J.P Hanaman addressed the media stating that the commission was forced to function from Guwahati in the absence of any office in Shillong.
The chairman also wanted the people to send complains online and the Home department was asked to initiate the process of online registration, which is yet to become a reality.
When contacted, Secretary to the commission, Aldous Mawlong said he has not received any complaints from the public to be taken up by the commission.
He admitted that the office and other infrastructure facilities are yet to come up which is delaying the full functioning of the commission.
Moreover, the website for the commission is yet to be developed.
