NONGPOH: The Agricultural Management Technology Agency (ATMA), Ri Bhoi in collaboration with the offices of Horticulture, Agriculture and Water Resources on Tuesday jointly organized a one-day training programme under the theme ‘One Drop One Seed’ at the Training Hall of Horticulture Department at Saiden here in Ri Bhoi.
The programme, aimed at focusing on the need to conserve water, was attended by farmers from across the district.
Among the resources persons present were Executive Engineer Water Resources SH Nadon, District Agriculture Officer KD Kharkongor, Horticulture Development Officer Mawjam Makdoh and Project Director ATMA F. Kharsyntiew besides other officers from the agriculture and horticulture departments.
Nadon highlighted various issues relating to water conservation in the district.
‘In Ri Bhoi, there is abundant water for both drinking and agriculture. Therefore protecting the water sources is the need of the hour,” Nadon said while also calling for doing away with illegal destruction and burning of forest.
Kharkongor and Makdoh meanwhile stressed on the need to improve the traditional agricultural practices by adopting a new approach towards farming.
