SHILLONG: Congress MDC Stevie Marak has accused the executive body of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) of using the council for its financial gain.
In a statement issued here recently, Marak said those elected for improving the GHADC are now in a frenzy trying to hoard as much money as they can before their term is over.
He said as per the statement of the CEM, the present executive council is following the guidelines of NITI Aayog and funds are being distributed feasibly, but in reality there was inequality in the distribution of funds.
“As per my understanding, the funds were meant for all the areas under the GHADC, not just the areas under the constituencies of the EC,” he said.
Marak further questioned why 60 percent of all the tender values were withdrawn on October 19, and that too all in cash, when tenders were opened just two days before that on October 17.
“Which guideline states that tender forms should only be given to contractors who are hand in glove with the EC? We have received complaints that tender forms were issued only to those contractors with recommendation letters from the EC,” he said.
