TURA: A teenage boy allegedly raped a two-year-old infant who was kept in his care in Williamnagar on Saturday.
The child was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition but is now said to be responding to treatment.
The incident occurred when the parents of the little girl left her in the care of their helper, who happened to be related to the family, and went to the home of a friend who had passed away.
Taking advantage of the family’s absence, the 14-year-old boy forced himself on her and it was only on their return that the family realized that the crime had been committed. Police were called in and the little girl was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
According to district police chief Davis Nestell R Marak the accused teenager has been handed over to a juvenile home by the child protection officer.
