SHILLONG: Foodies and those who are blessed with culinary skills have a good piece of news. There is going to be a unique Food Festival which will be a big draw for both.
Being organised by Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club as a part of its on-going diamond jubilee celebrations, the Festival, scheduled for December 3 next, will see some of the local talents demonstrate their culinary skills live on-the-spot. The occasion will also witness for the first time a display of the traditional food platters (thali) of different communities of cosmopolitan Shillong. Also on display will be a wide ranging food carvings and salad dishes—another new for Shillong.
The Festival’s core—competition on some delectable home-made foods—will see a few hundred men and women vie for the attractive cash prizes, utility gift prizes and gift hampers the organisers are going to provide.
Shillong’s own Indian Institute of Hotel Management will actively be involved with the event.
A press statement issued by the Club here on Wednesday said that efforts were on to invite a team from Bangladesh to showcase their much famed delicacies.
The Food Festival is being dedicated to the memory of Late Ardhendu Chaudhuri, ex-MLA, and former President of the Club, who introduced the concept of Food Festival in this part of the country some two decades ago.
The Club has made provision for sale of foods—both vegetarian and non-vegetarian—besides having mouth-watering snacks and ice cream counters. Live music and fun games will also be organised to give it a carnival look.
The last date for entry is November 15. Entry forms and rules can be obtained from Rilbong Club office, The Shillong Times City Office MTC Building, Papu Book Stall Laitumkhrah, Jyoti Pharmacy Laban, Sikha’s Annexe Last Stop, Le-Femme Umpling, Gupta Medico Polo Bazar.
