Week-long youth exchange programme kicks off

SHILLONG: The week-long Meghalaya Youth Exchange Programme at the J.N Sports Complex is focusing on the growth of the nation through empowerment of youth.
The programme inaugurated by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith M. Sangma, is being organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Department and will continue till October 31.
Addressing the gathering at the programme that was based on the theme ‘Empowering the Youth, Powering the Nation’, Sangma said the event would not only enable the youths to exchange knowledge, “but will also act as a platform to build friendly relationships among fellow citizens”. “If youths are empowered, their future will be secured, which in turn will make the nation stronger. Every youth is an asset to the nation; they are the future of the nation,” he added.
Youths from all the 11 districts are participating in the event.
Among other dignitaries present at the programme were M.W Nongbri, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and member secretary of the organising committee, and F.R Kharkongor, Commissioner and Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the organising committee.
Other highlights of the event include felicitation of singer and actress Andrea Tariang and a cultural programme by the students of Institute of Arts and Culture and Geetanjali Dance Academy.
