13-year-old girl held for selling liquor

SHILLONG: A 13-year-old girl was arrested from Madanrting on Sunday for selling illegal liquor. The minor was later released on a bail bond Police said investigation is on to trace the person who engaged the girl in selling alcohol. They also seized two-three pouches of liquor. It is alleged that the girl’s mother had forced her to sell liquor as she, being a minor, would escape punishment. Local NGOs have raised concerns over cases where minors are being forced to sell liquor and urged the police to arrest the main dealers.
