NONGPOH: A day after former UDP leader Field Marshall Mawphniang officially joined the BJP, secretary of the UDP’s Ri Bhoi unit Rayonald Kharkamni termed the former as a spent force who was discarded by the Congress following which he sought refuge in the regional party in 2012.
Kharkamni went on to claim that Mawphniang’s name was struck off from the UDP list back in 2014.
“As a failed politician, his Congress-member style of functioning was not well received in the UDP thereby prompting him to flee the party at the first opportunity during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections,” Kharkamni said.
Meanwhile, UDP working president Bindo Lanong also said that Mawphniang did not remain with the party even for a year. “As per our records, he left pretty soon after joining the party,” Lanong said.  As many as six leaders including MDCs from various parties had joined the BJP officially here on Saturday.
