SHILLONG: Shillong Traffic police has now vowed to take action against people who drive their vehicles while using their phones.
Speaking to media persons here in the city on Wednesday, SP (Traffic) N.K Syiem stated that traffic police would be much stricter against those people who use mobile while driving.
“The use of mobiles while driving is dangerous as people’s concentration shifts from road to phone,” he said, adding that if anyone has to attend to an important call, the driver has to park his car on the road and cater to the call.
Stating that the use of mobiles by people while driving affects the movement of traffic, he warned that police would not hesitate from taking action against anyone who violates the rule. “The safety of people while driving is our responsibility”, he said.
He added that most road accidents take place because the drivers do not concentrate on the road.
He also said that the number of underage driving in the city has come down and the police is taking action against any minor who is found to be driving.
