‘Things will become smooth in 2-3 days’
SHILLONG: Honest people should not lose sleep over the government’s demonetisation move as it is targeted towards the corrupt, said Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal during his visit to the city on Monday.
The Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs said people should not panic as the government has given sufficient time to deposit and exchange currency notes and added that the Centre has authorised private hospitals to accept Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
Responding to a query about the long queues in banks and the problems being faced by people due to the demonetisation move, he said the system will be smooth in the next two-three days.
“There was a bit of problem in Guwahati, we urge the public not to panic,” he said.
Banks in the city and other parts of the State are having a tough time handling the long queues of customers who want to deposit old cash and withdraw new currency notes.
Meghwal said the Centre’s move will boost the country’s economy and reduce black money, restrict circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes and funding of terror groups.
