As many as 72 cadres don’t figure on list
TURA: The leadership of the now disbanded ANVC-B outfit has accused the State Government of diverting the Centre’s rehabilitation package towards the surrendered cadres of other outfits and also questioned the difference in the amount to be given to each rebel who returned to the mainstream.
Former chairman of ANVC-B, Rimpu Marak, has in a communiqué to the press alleged that their package was being diverted to surrendered cadres of other outfits.
He also claimed that the names of 72 cadres of his outfit did not figure on the list of beneficiaries of the rehabilitation package and blamed the state government for the alleged deletion.
“In the last meeting in Delhi, the figure presented by the state did not tally with the actual number of cadres selected for packages. The names of 72 cadres were missing and which we fear is being diverted to other militant groups who have been promised a package of Rs. 2.5 lakh while the ANVC and ANVC-B cadres are assured only Rs 1.5 lakh,” claimed Rimpu Marak.
He said that his organisation has lodged a written complaint with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and called upon him to stop any attempt at diverting their packages.
The ANVC-B members have also sought an audience with the Chief Minister to discuss the matter.
“Packages sanctioned by the Centre for ANVC and ANVC-B must be paid to the ANVC and ANVC-B alone,” demanded Rimpu Marak and added that it is the state’s responsibility to handle deserters and members of fraction groups who surrendered.
The ANVC-B leadership has been at loggerheads with state officials and the government for a long time over the issue of who gets included in the rehabilitation package list. While the group has been maintaining that it wants all its cadres to avail of the rehab package, state officials have often questioned the actual number of cadres in the rebel organization.
The ANVC-B leaders accuse certain high ranking government officials of alleged ‘tampering’ of the names list.
“We smell foul play as state officials have never sat with us to finalise the final list of cadres in spite of completing verification process two times,” alleged the outfit chief.
The group recently held a high level meeting of its leadership as word came around that the packages for ANVC were being released while theirs was not.
“We are demanding the holding of an immediate meeting to sort out the matter and ensure there is no partiality,” informed the outfit leader.
