TURA: Former MLA from Baghmara, Satto R Marak has apprised Meghalaya Chief Secretary, K S Kropha about the problems being faced by the people of the area in the wake of demonetization of high value currency notes by the Centre.
In his letter to the Chief Secretary, the former MLA highlighted the lack of sufficient ATMs belonging to the SBI (numbering 2) in the area which has been posing problems for the people as they are unable to dispense cash due to its irregular stocking.
“The opening of more ATMs and regular stocking of these Teller Machines would greatly reduce the inconvenience caused and your intervention in this matter will be highly appreciated especially with the coming festive season,” Marak said.
Reminding that the major hub of border export/import of the state is Gasuapara, located in South Garo Hills which falls under the Baghmara Legislative Assembly Constituency, Marak sought the opening of at least one ATM booth in the area which currently has an SBI Branch but no ATM.
With regard to the power sector, Marak informed that faulty transformers under Dalu MeECL Sub Division and Baghmara MeECL Sub Division have been lying non-functional without repair for a certain period time which is posing problems for the people especially the student community.
According to Marak, villages that are currently without power supply include, Lower Gasuapara and Megua Songgital under Dalu MeECL Sub-Division and many others under the Division.
