SHILLONG: In view of the ongoing eviction of hawkers and non implementation of Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, the Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association & TUR on Tuesday called on Chief Secretary KS Kropha and reiterated their demand for regulation of street vending and hawking under an existing law.
They submitted a five-point action plan to implement the law and suggestions were made about the constitution of a participatory town vending committee with adequate representation of hawkers and independent planning experts.
The NGOs said that they will jointly take part in the survey to be conducted from December 1 at IGP, Civil, Barik-Malki, Dhankheti and other places and also put forward an estimate of the number of street vendors Shillong could accommodate.
