Opposition against landfill at Diengiei

SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee consisting of Deingiei Youth Federation, Kynroh area, Synjuk Ki Sordar Shnong Krang area, Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Khrum Diengiei have expressed their opposition to the acquisition of land at Diengiei area for bringing the marten/sanitary landfill by the state government.
In a statement to the press, the committee said that the government should utilize the ‘thousand acres of land by MUDA at New Shillong area purchased by the revenue department, state government’.
They added that the land at Diengiei areas are 80-90 per cent agricultural land and pointed out that the landfill will affect the water source of the villages located downstream.
