SHILLONG: Like any other elections in the State, it is yet again a battle of curious names in the by-polls to seven district council constituencies.
Among the 33 candidates in fray, World Champion Paliar from HSPDP is trying hard to ensure the defeat of Morningstar Tympuin from UDP in Rambrai-Jyrngam seat, West Khasi Hills, even as Sydney Marbaniang (Kimfa) of the Congress is confident of a favourable outcome.
In War East constituency of West Jaintia Hills, Firstborn Manner (UDP) does not wish to come last even as Losing Lakuna (Independent) is all out to give a tough fight for the opponents from the Congress and BJP.    In the otherwise low profile by-polls, the aggressive campaigners are Thandarsing Warjri (BJP) and Jambor War (UDP) contesting from Pariong-Mawthadraishan constituency.
However, among the total four candidates contesting from Mairang-Nongkhlaw seat, Counsellor Sing Wahlang from BJP and Equator L. Nongrang from UDP have adopted a cautious approach.
In a wise move, Cleverson Roy Syiemlieh, the BJP stand-by candidate from Nongspung-Sohiong withdrew from fray leaving other five candidates to vie for the seat.
In Nongkrem, Hispreachering Son Shylla (UDP) is vocal during the series of campaigns through his power of speech.
