Fest to focus on tradition, culture
SHILLONG: In order to boost the tourism industry in the state, Native Fiesta- a festival aimed at reawakening the sounds of forgotten traditional songs and dances, reviving traditional slow foods and increasing footfalls to some of the virgin places in the state, will be organised next year.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, chairman of Native Fiesta’s organising board Plielad Tiewsoh said, “The theme of the festival is awakening of socio-economic, cultural, political identity and natural sustainable tourism and the theme has an indigenous feel to it as there is a need to restore the lost identity of traditional institutions.”
D.S. Malai, secretary, Human Rights Council of India (Protection of Human Rights), said, “There will be an initiative to document the event to showcase people some of the places in the region.”
The organisers informed that the festival may be held tentatively in March with the slogan, ‘make your way beyond the clouds as nature awakens to her spell on our blessed land’.
“The festival will display traditional slow foods made by different communities of Meghalaya,” Malai said.
The festival is initiated by Ri-Bhoi Tourism & Environment Development Forum which is an organization seeking to promote livelihood programmes etc.
