Polls over, parties hope for the best

SHILLONG: With the by-election for the seven vacant seats of KHADC and JHADC finally over, the political parties are hoping for the best outcome.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said that the party is hopeful of winning maximum seats this time even as he thanked the voters for coming out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
He also thanked the party functionaries for their hard work.
KHNAM working president Edelbert Nongrum said that he has not received any feedback from the party candidates as many of the polling stations are in interior areas. The reaction of other political parties could not be sought.
Altercation at Lawsohtun
Meanwhile, there was slight altercation at one of the polling stations in Lawsohtun on Tuesday when an old woman reportedly came to cast her vote after 4 PM by when the voting time was over.
The sector officer said that as per the presiding officer, there was nobody outside the polling station and hence it was closed.
Later, local MLA Sanbor Shullai appeared in the scene and said the woman wanted to vote. However, after a little conversation, the woman was not allowed to vote.
The sector officer said that it was a small matter and nothing serious. When contacted for reaction, Shullai said he was busy.
