Niti Aayog wants improvement of civic amenities

SHILLONG: The KHADC has been asked to review the plan to construct resorts and furnishing of guest houses by the state-level committee dealing with Special Assistance Scheme meant for the district council.
A meeting of the state-level committee was held on Friday at the State Secretariat to approve funds for various proposals submitted by the KHADC and the JHADC.
The fund sanctioned by the Centre for the KHADC is Rs 133.12 crore, and for the JHADC, Rs 33.57 crore was allotted.
Earlier, the state-level committee had approved and released Rs 100.71 crore for the GHADC.
During the meeting, the state-level committee observed that the projects will have to be implemented as per guidelines set by Niti Aayog.
An official source said the Centre is looking at the delivery of basic civic amenities, including water supply, sanitation, septic management, sewerage and solid waste management, storm water drainage and maintenance of community assets, roads, footpaths, street lights, and burial and cremation grounds.
“In this context, while the KHADC has been asked to re-examine the proposal on construction of resorts and furnishing of guest houses, JHADC was urged to obtain views of PHE regarding the construction of ground water supply,” the official added.
However, the state-level committee has sanctioned Rs 123 crore out of Rs 133.12 crore for KHADC for the implementation various proposals.
