SHILLONG: BJP leader and former MLA, KC Boro has downplayed the party’s debacle in the recently concluded district council by-polls and asserted that the BJP will shine in the 2018 Assembly elections in the State.
“Success is never final and failure is never the end. It is only the beginning. We should simply take it as a lesson and be cautious for the upcoming Assembly polls,” Boro said when asked about the district council polls and party’s preparedness for 2018.
Boro, who is the West Garo Hills district president of the BJP Kisan Morcha asserted that in 2018, the BJP will perform well and may even emerge as the single largest party.
He hoped that BJP will secure at least 10 seats or more from Garo Hills alone. “We will form the next government with the coalition partners,” he said.
Boro, however, refused to divulge the coalition partners.
Asked about the reason for the defeat of BJP in the Council by-polls, Boro said he will only blame the party candidates and workers for the defeat as the candidates underestimated the opponents. Moreover, the party workers neglected their duties and responsibilities, he said.
He also denied that demonetisation was the cause for the defeat of the party. “I fully support the demonetisation move of the Prime Minister. We will have to tolerate small irritants during the implementation of the policy for greater good,” Boro said.
It may be mentioned that the BJP failed to make a mark in the by-polls to the KHADC and JHADC held recently.
