Lumkut, Lumbatngen win in U-15 football tourney
Shillong: Lumkut defeated Pohktieh 8-0 in the Under-15 Football Tournament 2016 played at Nongthymmai ground on Friday. The second match was between Golden Estate and Nongthymmai Football Coaching Center ended in a tie with both teams failing to score a goal. Meanwhile, in the third match, Lumbatngen defeated Nongkhyriem-B 3-0.
Young Guns win in first division league match
Shillong: Young Guns won by 50 runs against United Nongkseh in the Shillong Cricket League first division match played at cricket ground, Polo on Friday. Being put to bat first, Young Guns scored 198 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 35 overs in which Asutosh Pathak was the top scorer with 60 runs off 59 balls. For United Nongkseh, Bushbashisha and Vinod Sunar picked up two wickets each. In reply, United Nongkseh were dismissed for 148 runs in 33.5 overs in which Vinod Sunar contributed 37 runs off 82 balls. Prosanjit Paul and Sameer Thapa picked two and three wickets respectively for Young Guns.
Bravo’s Big Bash season cut short by injury
Melbourne: West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out for the rest of Australia’s Twenty20 Big Bash League with a hamstring injury, his Melbourne Renegades club said Friday. Bravo suffered the setback during a loss to the Perth Scorchers on Thursday and scans revealed a serious injury that will require surgery and a long spell on the sidelines. Bravo was fielding on the boundary when he made a desperate dive to cut off a shot from Michael Klinger and clutched his hamstring in pain. “Unfortunately my Big Bash season is over which is very disappointing,” Bravo said. “I’ll now have surgery and rehabilitation to get me fit. I want to thank all the Renegades fans for their support for me and I hope to see them again next season.” (AFP)
Ranji semis: Dhoni to support Jharkhand
New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is the unofficial mentor to the Jharkhand cricket team, is set to watch his state side take on Gujarat in its first ever Ranji Trophy semifinal beginning in Nagpur on Sunday. Dhoni doesn’t play the longer version of the game ever since retiring from Tests but often practices with the Jharkhand players during the domestic First-Class season. But with the Indian team for the home ODI and T20 series against England expected to be picked in the first week of January, Dhoni might not be in Nagpur for the entire duration of the game. (PTI)
Tevez joins Chinese club
Buenos Aires: Argentina striker Carlos Tevez has joined the growing number of international stars in Chinese football by moving to Shanghai Shenhua from Boca Juniors. The Buenos Aires club ended days of speculation by confirming the move on their official website on Thursday, reports Xinhua news agency. “Shanghai Greenland Shenhua FC reached a transfer agreement with Argentina Club Atletico Boca Juniors. Carlos Alberto Tevez has officially joined Shanghai Shenhua,” the statement said. No financial details were given but media reports said the Chinese Super League outfit paid 84 million euros ($88.4 million) for the 32-year-old, making him the world’s sixth most expensive player.
