Secretariat yet to witness normal attendance

SHILLONG: The first week of the New Year was not encouraging as far as the work culture among state government employees and officers is concerned.
While only a few ministers attended offices at the Secretariat, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma was in the office only for a couple of days.
Some ministers and officers just “showed their faces” in the offices for a few hours as the New Year celebrations elsewhere were awaiting them.
When asked whether there will be any Cabinet meeting so that the government can announce new programmes and policies for the New Year, a Minister said since the Chief Minister was not in station, no cabinet meeting was fixed.
On Friday, neither the Chief Minister nor Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh was present in the city during the programme for laying the foundation of the Labour Institute at Rynjah attended by Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya.
Last week, there was thin attendance in many government offices at the Secretariat and elsewhere in the State  as many were on extended leave, and the normal attendance is expected only in the third week of January.
