SHILLONG: Taking note of the trafficking racket in the State that brought several guest houses under scanner, the City Police has taken a step to enlighten hotel and guest house owners about various precautionary measures to be taken to prevent any sexual crime on their premises.
Set with an aim to curb the business of ‘easy money’ involving some hotels/guests houses, Vivek Syiem, SP (Crime), said, “Prostitution network has increased in Shillong but we should not allow this business to thrive. Any kind of sex work should not be allowed in hotels.”
During a meeting, hotel and guest house owners were urged to install CCTV cameras as well as to maintain records of the people who check in.
Syiem said that entering of names of people and their accomplices is mandatory besides keeping a copy of the visitors’ IDs, the details of which have to be submitted to police stations. “Sex workers use mobile phones and form a chain with the workers of the hotels. Waiters, private securities etc., should be verified,” he said.
With the issue of trafficking of minors raising its ugly head, he told hotel owners that, “It is high time we pose question to minors.”
