Shillong: The Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills District informed that the winter festival of Baghmara which is better known as ‘Tysam’ has been deferred to January 16 and 17.
As per earlier schedule, the festival was supposed to conduct on January 12 and 13 which however has clashed with dates of annual Baptist C.K. Sobha (Convention) being held at Baghmara; and hence, the deferment of the event to the dates stated above.
The term Tysam an Atong word, which literally means by the river side, is an annual social and cultural extravaganza organised by the District Administration on the golden beaches of mighty river Simsang held usually together, in the month of December in line with winter festivals of neighbouring districts, but last year it could not be held due to various constraints.
The two days event, over the years have become a huge hit drawing people from far and wide wherein one gets to see not only the rich cultures and traditions of South Garo Hills but also various developmental aspects of the districts are highlighted providing wholesome entertainment to the people.
