Former Cong MLA passes away

TURA: Former Congress MLA from Dalu in West Garo Hills Mountbatten K. Sangma passed away in Tura after a prolonged illness. He was 69.
Sangma won from Dalu on a Congress party ticket in 1988 by defeating the then Hill People’s Union (HPU) candidate Archibold A. Sangma by a margin of 823 votes. Before Mountbatten Sangma, Dalu was represented in the state legislature by Kamal R Bhowmik of the Congress.
After his election he went on to hold several important portfolios in the then Congress government headed by chief minister Salseng C. Marak.
He was minister for animal husbandry and veterinary department and also held charge of communications. A large number of his supporters and well wishers converged at his residence at Najing Bazar in Tura for the funeral service on Tuesday afternoon.
