Over Rs 2,300 cr deposited in State SBI branches post note ban

SHILLONG: A whopping Rs 2,312.89 crore was deposited in different branches of State Bank of India (SBI) in Meghalaya following the Centre’s demonetisation move in November.
Official data show that during the demonetisation period from November 10 to December 30, the total number of receipt transactions were 4,18,611 with a total amount of Rs 2,312.89 crore being deposited.
During the same period, total payment transactions were 7,79,265 with a total amount of Rs 899.11 crore.
The figures are expected to be much higher in the State as huge amount of cash was also deposited in other public and private sector banks during the demonetisation period.
