Two-day ethnic food fest from January 27

Nongpoh: Following the success of the previous events being held at the scenic Marngar Lake, one of the famous tourist spots in Ri Bhoi District, the Marngar Eco Tourism & Cutural Development Society in collaboration with Helping Other People for Enlightenment Society (HOPES) is all set to organise the ‘Ri Bhoi Ethnic Food Festival’ on the 27th and 28th of January 2017 at Marngar Lake.
The two-day event will feature various indigenous cuisines prepared in hollow bamboo stems, rice beer and wines being prepared locally.
In an  attempt to promote the local traditional culture of the district there will be handloom and handicrafts items sculpted, weaved and design by the talented artist  of the district.
Competitons like  traditional and modern dancing and singing, fashion show and archery will also be held.
A rock band from Shillong will perform on the first day and an EDM night on the second day.
Housie Bumper Competion will be held on both days where the winner will get Rs 10,000 in cash.
The society informed that on the 30th of January 2017 there will be a cleaning drive at the lake and it will be closed. It will re-open the next day.
