Unity for the wrong causes

Date:

Editor, It is a pity that we unite when our macho pride gets hurt but we do not care when inhumanity causes a real blow to our pride. We cannot stop rape, ragging, teasing, lynching and bullying so long as violence is allowed to be enjoyed in the name of tradition, culture or necessity for becoming fit enough to survive. However, in the journey of evolution after minerals, plants and animals; human beings tradition and culture, then how can we support Malala? Unfortunately, our stand in favour of Jallikattu on the ground of blind tradition will dump us on Talibans who regard culture as a static thing.

Obama to Trump- a paradigm shift!

Editor,

The paradigm shift and a strong emergence of right-wing politics in the U.S could change the engagement of geopolitics in the world. While Obama reflected the ideals of nationalism in his policies and acknowledging the virtues of globalisation, his successor president elect Donald Trump seems to see only the vices of globalisation. Outrightly declining the popular belief of anthropogenic role in climate change to promising border walls in order to protect jobs in America, it would be interesting to see how the story of “Make America Great Again” unfolds in the presidency of Trump.

Poor customer relationship

Editor,

As per RBI notification the work timings of the bank is till 4 pm. However, the SBI Laban branch had closed the front door before 4:00. As I had a query I had to enter from the back door. On greeting the service manager there his reply was, ” I am very busy, you please come tomorrow”. I sometimes feel the bank staff should be trained on customer service and orient their thought processes differently. Has the manager forgotten that she is in the service industry? Hope the Regional Manager of the Bank reads this letter and seeks accountability from the officer concerned. Yours etc., Debraj Dasgupta Shillong 4
