SHILLONG: The Shillong-Sohra road, which is one of the most scenic roads in the State, has become a deadly ground for rash and reckless driving. Several cases of accident have been reported from the area and many have lost their lives.
SP (Traffic) NK Syiem said hasty drivers take advantage of less traffic personnel present on the outskirts leading to accidents.
Syiem said the city police will deploy flying squads in these areas to put leash on road rogues. “If a flying squad sees any reckless driving, it will inform the traffic personnel in Shillong and the culprit can be detained,” he said.
Youngsters use the stretch of road for reckless driving and riders perform stunts, often putting others’ life in danger.
