SHILLONG: The UDP youth wing, which elected new office bearers on Friday, said the State Government should take active steps to ensure a safe and secure environment for women and children.
Speaking to media persons after the general meeting of the UDP youth wing in the city on Friday, president Fedrick Lynshiang called upon the Government to provide adequate protection to all women and book all perpetrators as early as possible.
However, Lynshiang remained discreet when asked to comment on the imbroglio over the alleged molestation by Governor V. Shanmuganathan.
“If he (governor) is really involved, we condemn him and would urge that the law be equal for everyone,” he said.
Youth policy
The youth wing has expressed concern over the Government delaying the Youth Policy despite 45 years of statehood.
“Our party leaders have, from time to time, given their views and suggestions on the matter but to no avail since the State Government is keeping silent till today,” general secretary Manbha Syiemlieh said.
On the delay in releasing scholarships, the UDP wing said they would soon lead a delegation to meet the Education Minister.
The tribal students’ scholarships have not been paid for more than two years now.
