5th Bah Phrun Kharumnuid Archery Competition held
Shillong: The 5th Bah Phrun Kharumnuid Memorial Archery Competition was organised by the Regional Sports Arts and Cultural Academy on January 30 at Madan Iasit Smit. The groups were divided into Under-16 and open to all (group and single) category. Syntarson Nongrum was the winner in the Under-16 category and Ialamstar Umdor was the first runner-up. In the open to all category (group), the winners were Aiwanker Rani and Kyrshanri Khongsngi, while the 2nd prize was bagged by Jam Khongsit and Dral Majaw. In the single, Abelstar Dkhar won the first prize and the 2nd prize was bagged by Aiborsing Lyngdoh Mawphlang. The prizes were distributed by H.S Shylla, MDC from Nongkrem, and K.M Syiem Sordar of Smit village.
DSO to organise Inter-School Athletic meet in WJH
JOWAI: The office of the District Sports Officer West Jaintia Hills will organise the Inter-School Athletic Meet 2017 at Kiang Nangbah Stadium Jowai in the 3rd week of March for the Under-14, Under-16, Above-16 for both boys and girls of the district.The athletes are to produce their original birth certificate during the screening and verification of age to be conducted by the office. The birth certificate issued by the Community Health Centre, Primary Health Centre and Municipal Board would only be valid documents for eligibility of age proof.
FC Pune City beat Jeppiaar IT FC 1-0 in IWL
New Delhi: FC Pune City registered their first win of the inaugural edition of the Indian Women’s League (IWL) football tournament with a 1-0 margin over Jeppiaar Institute of Technology FC here on Tuesday. Dalima Chhibber’s 47th-minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides at the Ambedkar Stadium here. Jeppiaar were quick off the blocks and tested the FC Pune City early on through Pratima Mukhia.The match was confined to the midfield. Both teams tried to outfox the other, but instead of succeeding, only nullified themselves. The teams went into the break 0-0. The complexion of the match changed completely after half-time. In the 47th minute, Dalima Chhibber latched onto a Jyoti Burrett pass and smashed it home to give Pune the lead. Jeppiaar pressed for the equaliser but failed to construct any clear goal scoring chance. (IANS)
Barcelona prepare for Atletico sans Iniesta, Busquets
Barcelona: Barcelona went ahead with their training session without injured midfielders Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets for the first leg of the Cope del Rey football semi-finals against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday. While Iniesta and Busquets missed the work out session, the return of central midfielder Rafinha was good news for the coach, reports Efe. The session was led by Luis Enrique just one day after the 1-1 away La Liga tie against Real Betis, which widened the gap behind leader Real Madrid to four points. Barca will return to training on Tuesday before Enrique holds a presser for the match. (IANS)
West Indies’ Russell banned over whereabouts violation
Kingston: West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was banned on Tuesday for one year for a doping whereabouts rule violation. The two-times Twenty20 World Cup winner was revealed to have committed the violation 11 months ago after registering three filing failures in 2015. That constitutes a failed drugs test under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules. “Mr Russell was found guilty of a doping violation,” Hugh Faulkner, chairman of the independent anti-doping tribunal that handed out the punishment, said in a statement.The 28-year-old Jamaican, who helped the West Indies win their second World T20 title in 2016, will be banned for a year from January 31.
