Alleges human rights violation after relatives denied permission to meet him
SHILLONG: A petition was filed in a local court on Thursday against two CID officers after they barred the relatives of Stanleywiss Rymbai from meeting him.
Balamutlang Mawlong, Rymbai’s son, in his petition filed in the court of Additional Deputy Commissioner cum District and Sessions Judge Shillong, said Superintendent In charge of CID Claudia Lyngwa and DSP (CID) P.S Paul Choudhury violated the court order that had allowed the relatives to meet the former MLA who is admitted in Civil Hospital.
Earlier too the relatives were not allowed to meet Rymbai in the hospital following which an application was filed in the court on Tuesday. The court after hearing the petition allowed the relatives to meet Rymbai as per rules and directed Paul Choudhury to do so.
However, on Wednesday, when the children went to meet Rymbai as per the direction of the court, they were not allowed to meet their father on the grounds that the Investigation Officer (IO) has not received the court’s order despite the fact that the IO was duly represented by the State counsel.
According to the petition, when Rymbai’s lawyer met him in his hospital cell on Wednesday, Rymbai told him that he was interrogated by the IO on various dates forcing him to name some high officials in the Government for commission of fraud.
“The IO did not consider the health condition of the accused (Rymbai) when he was interrogating him in the hospital cell,” the petition stated and alleged that the IO and his superiors flouted human rights by interrogating Rymbai in hospital without a court order and stopping the children from meeting their father from January 25 till February 1.
The petition further said the action of the IO and his higher-ups shows that the case against Rymbai is fabricated.
“The arrest was motivated and ill-timed in view of the fact that FIR was filed way back in 2012,” the family alleged in the petition.
The former Umroi MLA was arrested recently in connection with the multi-crore land scam and he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a local court.
