SHILLONG: The KHADC has increased fund allocation for repairing the single-lane road project in portions of South West Khasi Hills district from Rs 20 crore to Rs 25 crore.
Speaking to media persons on Friday after a meeting with members of KSU, KHADC chief executive member P.N Syiem said the repair work will start from Nongstoin (10 km) under Nongstoin division and the remaining 33 km is under Mawkyrwat and other divisions.
The CEM said the KHADC would include it as a project proposal in the District Council budget for 2016-17.
“The amount of Rs 25 crore will be deposited to the PWD after the money is released by the Centre to the District Council,” Syiem said, adding, “We will then propose the amount of Rs 25 core for the road project to the State Level Committee. Whether the government gives permission or not, on our part we are willing to deposit the amount and give it to the government to execute the road project.”
The PWD had earlier said it would execute the single-lane Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Phlangdiloin road project and rejected the proposal of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council to carry out the work on its own. However, most MDCs feel that it should be allotted to the KHADC as the sanction money belongs to them.
Meanwhile, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said, “We are glad that the KHADC has increased the amount of money from Rs 20 to Rs 25 crore and it will be included in the budget of 2016-17, which will be executed this fiscal year.”The organisation said the State Government and the District Council should work out their differences as to who would execute the project.
