TURA: Self-help groups in Garo Hills, which have played a vital role in alleviating poverty in the region, are going digital and have started updating their data online through the Central government’s digitisation programme e-shakti.
The digital programme is being implemented by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), which has selected 22 districts across India for the digitisation programme.  West Garo Hills is one of the selected districts. Bakdil non-governmental organization is implementing the project.
The digitisation programme got underway this week with Bakdil conducting training for animators to update SHG data on the e-shakti app through android phone at Bakdil conference hall at Chandmary in Tura.
As many as 13 SHG animators along with the Bakdil staff attended the training after which each SHG animator was provided with an android phone through which they would continue the process of updating the SHG data in their respective areas.
