SHILLONG: Joint Action Committee of All Meghalaya Farmer Union (JACAMFU) has demanded from the state government to provide seeds, marketing facilities and to deal with unjust harassment of farmers.
Chairman of the Union, Commander Shangpliang said that the State Government should implement the insurance scheme for farmers to ensure that they feel secure even in times of natural disasters.
“The agricultural development in the State has gone down as the State Government is not taking efforts” he alleged
The Chairman also demanded the government to increase the allocation of money to the department.
Shangpliang slammed the State Government for not considering the demands of the organisation which was already sent to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma as well as to Commissioner of Agriculture.
Alleging apathy on the part of the government, the Farmers’ Union has announced that it will agitate stating that farmers should no longer be harassed.
