Delay in Mawlai C&RD Block inauguration

SHILLONG: The inauguration of C&RD blocks and Civil Sub-Divisions in constituencies under Congress legislators in some districts of the State is seen as a political move of the government in the run up to the 2018 polls.
Alleging this here on Tuesday the HYC and the FKJGP Mawlai circle took exception to the fact that there was unnecessary delay in the inauguration of the Mawlai C&RD Block.
The HYC and FKJGP delegation had also called on C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday to impress upon him the urgent need to inaugurate the Mawlai C&RD Block.
It may be mentioned that during the budget session last year, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had announced the creation of four new C&RD blocks, which included Mawlai in EKH, Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi, Dendema in WGH  and Damalgre in SWGH. Subsequently, the CM went further to add two additional development blocks – Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills and Sohiong in EKH.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, FKJGP Mawlai circle president Marbud Dkhar expressed concern over the delay in inaugurating the Mawlai block contending that the state government is playing politics.
Pointing out that Sohiong and Damalgre blocks have been already inaugurated and are represented by Congress legislators.
Meanwhile, the C&RD Minister maintained that the department is in the process of finalising the land to house the Block office.
However, HYC-central body leader Donboklang Kharlyngdoh contended that land for the block office will not be a problem as people of Mawlai constituency are ready to give space for the project.
Threatening to agitate if there is further delay in the inauguration of the Mawlai C&RD Block Dkhar said, “The Mawlai block should be inaugurated before April 1 and the office should be situated in Mawlai itself.”
