SHILLONG: The Nationalist Congress Party is putting pressure on the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to take up the matter of the MUDA building bye laws with the court at the earliest.
An NCP delegation submitted a memorandum in this regard to KHADC CEM P.N Syiem on Thursday and said the Council did not reply to the party’s letters.
The NCP team felt that the Council has the power to frame laws and implement own building bye laws as per the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act, 1973.
Sanbor Shullai, president NCP, said the application of MUDA building bye laws has put the entire Shillong under the jurisdiction of MUDA which has aggrieved the people.
Stating a High Court order of last year that upheld the building bye laws of the Shillong Cantonment Board that challenged MUDA’s bye laws in the entire state, Shullai said, “Being aggrieved, the Shillong Cantonment Board filed a petition seeking exemption from the order as the Cantonment has its own building bye laws, the same exemption can be sought by the KHADC.”
