Prohibition on kite flying materials

SHILLONG: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting sale as well as use of pakka thread, nylon and Chinese manja made of synthetic materials for kite flying.  The order is necessitated to comply with the directive of the National Green Tribunal regarding manja, particularly synthetic, glass-coated and Chinese manja, which are injurious to human beings, birds and equally disadvantageous to the environment.
Moreover, the Forest and Environment Department, has issued guidelines on the prohibition of procuring, stocking, sale and use of such thread and other harmful substances for kite flying.
