SHILLONG: The CSWO under the leadership of Irene Hujon has said the Raj Bhavan controversy should not be allowed to end without thorough investigation and if inquiry finds former governor V. Shanmuganathan guilty, then he should face stern action.
However, Hujon recalled that members of the organisation, who met Shanmuganathan in the past, “found him amicable and jolly and ever since he took over as Governor, his aim was to get closer to the public, interact with them and give suggestions for betterment of the society”.
“Now that the Governor has been removed unceremoniously, investigation should also follow so that things are not left hanging in thin air. The public have the right to know why and how this shameful episode took place and what course of action will follow,” she said. Hujon said it is intriguing as to why the victim has not filed an FIR till date.
She also added that the role played by the staff serving at Raj Bhavan is also questionable since they came to know through local dailies and were unaware of the contents of the letter which they were asked to sign and was sent to the Prime Minister and the President of India.
She pointed out that if there is any foul play, then stringent action as per law should be initiated and action should also be taken against those who added more fuel to the fire and were vocal, including an illegal NGO using the name of CSWO.
“The incident has sent wrong signals across the country whereby no high ranking official in his right senses will venture taking up a position in the state of Meghalaya,” she said.
