SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association has slammed the State Government for allegedly providing misleading information with regard to the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) programme in the State.
The D.El.Ed is a specifically designed package for in-service untrained teachers working in lower primary/upper primary schools of different states of the country.
According to the president of the Association, Aristotle C. Rymbai, the MHRD in the Project Approval Board (PAB) 2013-14, had given its approval for training of 15,822 in-service untrained teachers from among 27,097 untrained teachers in the state for Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) training on government deputation, and the State Government had tied up 7822 untrained teachers to be trained with NIOS in 2013.
However, the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) Central Body found in the RTI report received recently from MHRD that in the 238th meeting of the PAB of SSA 2016-17 which was held on April 22 last year under the chairmanship of Dr. S.C. Khuntia Secretary D/O SE&L, MHRD, “out of 15822 untrained teachers approved for training, 4385 (the 1st batch enrolled in 2013 out of 7822) have received the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) training certificate from NIOS.
“If the 1st batch of untrained teachers have received their D.El.Ed training certificates as mentioned by the state government in PAB 2016-17, then who are those 4385 aggrieved untrained teachers and why is the State government silent on the issue?” he said.
He said that more than a year has passed since the day the trainees completed their final year exam in November 2015 but till date none from the 4385 untrained teachers have received their training certificates as claimed by the State government.
