BSF seizes over 100 cattle in separate incidents

SHILLONG: The BSF troops deployed in East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills districts of the State seized 106 cattle in separate incidents in the last four days. Based on information that some smugglers were proceeding towards the international border with a huge number of cattle, the BSF troops deployed at Lyngkhat launched an operation on Wednesday and prevented 65 cattle from being smuggled to Bangladesh. 20 cattle were seized from the same area four days back.
In another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Baljora, West Garo Hills seized 21 cattle while they were being smuggled to the neighbouring country.
According to BSF, the border area of West Garo Hills is also developing into a major centre of cattle smuggling from India to Bangladesh.
In addition, the BSF troops seized 270 cattle, around 188 Cft wooden logs, and contraband items worth more than Rs 38 lakh in the last one week.
