DGP wants proper probe into crime against women

SHILLONG: Meghalaya DGP S.B. Singh on Monday stressed the need to sensitize officers at various levels to properly investigate crime against women and children.
Addressing the one day workshop on gender sensitization held at the police headquarters here, Singh said that the police officers should be sensitive on gender issues especially when dealing the crime against women and children as per provisions of law.
The workshop had four technical sessions. The first session was chaired by T. Phanbuh, Chairperson, State Commission for Women and a lecture was delivered by H. Nongpluh, IGP (TAP) wherein he highlighted various aspects of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and also the Criminal Amendment Act of 2013.
The second session was chaired by Meena Kharkongor, Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the lectures were delivered by C.A. Lyngwa, Special  Superintendent of Police, CID and Prof B.P. Sahu, Adult and Continuing Education Department, NEHU on gender sensitization. The third session was chaired by B.R. Rana, Additional Director General of Police, and the lectures were delivered by V. Syiem, Superintendent of Police (City), and woman police officer P. Wahlang. They shared their experiences while investigating crimes against women and children.  The fourth session was chaired by L.M. Sangma, Chairman, MPSC in which a panel consisting Advocate N.D. Shullai, Government advocates Khalid Khan and N.G. Shylla, Public Prosecutor, East Khasi Hills I.C. Jha,  and  Board of Director, Impulse NGO Rosanna Lyngdoh, took part and discussed various issues relating to prosecution of cases of
