Seven poachers arrested in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: Wildlife personnel from Jirang Beat in cooperation with the Nongpoh Wildlife Range on Tuesday evening arrested seven poachers at Sdat Umphuid (Umiewsier), around 40 km from Patharkhmah in Ri Bhoi District.
The poachers were arrested while they were allegedly hunting deer at Sdat Umphuid inside the Nongkhyllem Reserve Forest.
Five country-made guns, 200 gm gun powder, 700 gm lead, ten machetes, three knives, four torch lights, five live cartridges and four empty cartridges were seized from the poachers identified as Ophrin Ryntathiang, Phrangsngi Kurbah, Lidra Kurbah, Dilip Kumar Kharthangmaw, Lingstep War, Starbor Kurbah and Khlur Kurbah, all hailing from hailing from Jobar village in South West Khasi Hills.
The wildlife personnel also seized 2.3 kg of dried meat of a barking deer, its skin, head and four legs.
The poachers were taken to Nongpoh Wildlife Range for interrogation and will be forwarded to the District Court after medical examination.
