TUR wants public role in Lokayukta selection

SHILLONG: Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) and Campaign for Independent Lokayukta in Meghalaya, which have been following up the early constitution of Lokayukta, have petitioned the search committee demanding that the names for the post of chairperson and members of the Meghalaya Lokayukta should be made public before they are forwarded to the selection committee.
The NGO in the petition to the Chairperson on Monday said the search committee, besides making the names public, should also seek people’s suggestions. “This will ensure active participation by the public in the selection process as well as providing a public legitimacy for the future Lokayukta,” a statement by TUR said, adding that this would also help in maintaining transparency.
