SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the government will review the system of appointment of retired employees.
The matter was raised by Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP) during the question hour in the Assembly on Tuesday.
To a question on the number of retired employees appointed and expenditure involved, the chief minister said information was being collected.
The chief minister earlier justified the appointment of retired employees by saying they were appointed due to the need of the government for overall functioning of the line departments and gave an example of the constitution of the pay commission.
He also said the appointment of retired government servants will not affect serving employees.
According to the chief minister, it is wrong to perceive that the government is showing favouritism by way of appointing retired employees.
After James Sangma (NPP) pointed out the frequent extensions of an officer on special duty in Meghalaya House, Delhi, the chief minister assured that the matter will be reviewed.
Two days ago, the CSWO, while protesting against the appointment of former DGP Rajiv Mehta as the state security advisor, had said appointment of retired officials would prevent promotion of many officers and curtail job opportunities for youths.
