SHILLONG: Minister in charge Information Technology, Ampareen Lyngdoh said she will apprise the Centre of the need to set up mobile towers to improve connectivity in the border areas of the State.
During the question hour of the Assembly on Tuesday, UDP’s Donkupar Roy brought to the notice of the government the absence of mobile towers in Nongjri, the biggest border village in East Khasi Hills.
To the question on 3G/4G internet connectivity in border villages in the State, the Minister said the BSNL has already conducted a joint survey with BSF for installation of mobile towers and laying of optical fibre cable in the border areas. The survey report and the project estimate are currently being looked into by the BSNL-NE-1 Circle, Shillong.
Land compensation
PWD (Roads) Minister Martin Danggo said that compensation is being provided to various land owners with regard to the construction of the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road.
To a supplementary question by James Sangma (NPP), the Minister said no compensation was paid to the landowners in West Garo Hills due to the revised estimate.
Appointment of jugalis
Earlier, Power Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said 290 jugalis will be appointed in the first phase.
In reply to a question by Paul Lyngdoh (UDP), Dhar said that the delay in appointment was due to the non receipt of police verification report of some candidates.
