SHILLONG: BSF troops have detected a freshly dug tunnel near the international border at Gujangpara in militant infested South West Garo Hills District.
The tunnel, dug around 20-25 ft under the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence and with a dead end, was discovered by two BSF jawans Amit Kutre and Puneet Kumar during patrol duty.
BSF suspects that the tunnel was dug by cattle smugglers though the possibility of its intended use by militants is not being ruled out.
The area being a hotbed of both cattle smugglers and militants, the border force is stepping up vigil and has intensified patrolling to thwart trans-border criminals.
