SHILLONG: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai on Wednesday brought to the notice of the House the loss of “precious water” in various parts of the city due to poor maintenance of pipes by the PHE and the Shillong Municipal Board.
Participating in the debate on the Governor’s address, Shullai added that water leaking from the pipes also damages the PWD roads leading to further wastage of funds.
He asked the House members to take note of a leaking pipe near the Zig Zag road Rilbong, on the way to the Assembly.
“There is a total lack of coordination between the PHE and the Municipal Board and it’s the common people who have to bear the brunt of water scarcity,” he said while also referring to the problem of water scarcity in South Shillong constituency which forced the residents of the area to threaten to file a PIL against the PHE and the Municipality on the issue.
